Joorbachian closes in on Hammers Published: 2005-08-08 09:50:41
Iranian businessman Kia Joorbachian is close to completing his takeover of West Ham United.

Joorbachian is quoted as saying:

"I was offered Newcastle, West Ham and somebody said that Spurs could be bought at the right price, but being an Arsenal fan I could never buy Tottenham!" Joorbachian told the Sunday Express."

"We have had two or three conversations with West Ham and I plan to speak with them again," added Joorbachian. "They are £31 million in debt. Any package would have to be worth £70 million but would have to take into account that debt.

"I want to buy a Premiership club and West Ham seem the most likely because they are in London and the price would not be too prohibitive."

Newcastle place £15m price tag on Jenas Published: 2005-08-08 09:42:54
Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness has placed a £15m price tag on unhappy midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Souness said:

"From our point of view, we want to keep him,"

"He's a valuable member of the squad and we're looking to build things here."

"We did a month ago, I believe from Tottenham Hotspur, but as far as I know that's not been followed up."

"That decision will be taken by the chairman. If we were offered £15million for JJ I think that would get him thinking, but that's not the case so that's not an issue."

Pardew admits Kanoute interest Published: 2005-08-06 12:54:31

West Ham United manager Alan Pardew has revealed his interest in former Hammers striker Freddie Kanoute, now at London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Pardew said:

"We were frustrated at not being able to sign Adebayor because he wanted to come here, but Monaco had a change of heart."

"I am a great believer in fate and when one door closes, another one opens. We have got other targets and are in the process of bringing in another striker. "

"We have set our sights high because we already have quality at the club in the shape of Marlon Harewood, Teddy Sheringham and Bobby Zamora. "

"There's no point in me signing another striker if they are not on a level or better than the ones I have already got. "

"Any player that is in the mould of Fredi Kanoute, we would be interested in signing."

Souness admits Jenas is unhapy at Toon Published: 2005-08-06 12:50:26

Newcastle United manager revealed that midfielder Jermaine Jenas feels he is 'living in a goldfish bowl' while at the club

Middlesbrough, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United are said to of been alerted by the revelation, though a move to local rivals 'Boro seems unlikely.

Souness said:

"I've spoken to his agent and he tells me JJ is quite happy with things at the club.

"But he says JJ feels that it is like living in a goldfish bowl - and that's the biggest problem."

"JJ has not had a problem with me or any of the staff, as far as I am aware."

"Nobody on the playing side or from the chairman down wants JJ to leave."

"Last year, JJ played more games than anyone apart from Shay Given - and I made him captain when Alan Shearer was out, so that shows what I think of him."

Davids close to Spurs move? Published: 2005-07-27 09:49:23
Inter Milan midfielder Edgar Davids could be set for a move to the Premiership with Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs announced yesterday that they had agreed a deal with Inter for the player, though the player does still have other options.

Tottenham coach Martin Jol said:

"It's terrific that he is joining us. This is the player we have spoken about who will lift the team's performance. We have a young squad with an average age of 23 and I believe Edgar will come in and lead by example."

However, Davids' lawyer Rob Geerling said:

"Edgar has offers from several British clubs, who are talking to Inter," said Geerling.

"Edgar is waiting to see what is happening with those clubs."

"[Martin] Jol knows the player and he knows his qualities, and it is vice versa for Edgar," Geerling told The Guardian.

"Edgar likes to play at the highest level. There are pros and cons for all the relevant clubs."

Arsenal move for Guti Published: 2005-07-20 09:44:35
Arsenal are reported to of jumped to the head of the queue for Real Madrid midfielder Guti.

Premiership clubs Tottenham and Eveton have both made enquiries for Guti, but reports coming from Spain suggest that Arsenal will be his next destination.

Real Madrid general manager Arrigo Sacchi said:

"If one [team] comes forward then we will talk."

He added: "Guti is a great player and he has made it clear he wants to play. But where? I could put him on the wing but he feels happier just behind the forwards or up front.

"In those positions we already have Zinedine Zidane and Raul, two great champions, and further forward we have Ronaldo and Michael Owen and we may have Robinho too.

"So in order to play, Guti has to play out of position and that's why we understand his request."

Arnesen fires parting shot at Tottenham Published: 2005-07-11 09:23:50
New Chelsea Director of football Frank Arnesen has fired a parting shot at former club Tottenham Hotspur.
"I have been at a club where we were always at the back of the queue," Arnesen told the News of the World.

"Chelsea and Arsenal were always at the front of the queue signing the big players. I didn't like that.

"I always wanted to be the one signing the big players and I know that joining Chelsea will now give me that chance.

"In recent years Spurs have spent the same money as Arsenal on players but just look at the difference. Players see that - and players know that.

"And so the top players will always want to sign for Arsenal or for Chelsea instead."

Newcastle won't sell Jenas Published: 2005-06-28 09:49:15
Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has insisted the club have no intention of selling midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Tottenham are reportedly ready to make a move, amid suggestions that the midfielder has expressed concerns over his prospects of securing regular football, following the signing of Scott Parker and soon arrival of Emre.

The 22-year-old has earned international recognition following his move to Newcastle and Shepherd believes it would be madness to allow a rising star to slip through the net.

"We're not in the business of selling our best players and JJ definitely falls into that category," said Shepherd.

"Graeme Souness made him captain when Alan Shearer was injured last season and I would imagine he's a leading candidate to take the armband on a permanent basis once Alan retires. That's how highly he's rated here.

"There's been no contact at all from Spurs but even if there was, they would be wasting their time."
